The consortium is constituted by four excellent institutions in addition to RBI DTP. The institutions were chosen especially because they complement each others, covering and promising to upgrade the required expertises related to the Theoretical Physics research of the DTP. They also have a well documented tradition in excellence in knowledge transfer, which is a crucial quality to achieve the goals of the project.

In particular, SISSA covers all of the topics investigated in DTP and also more broadly in the area of theoretical physics. It is characterized by a high qualification of the teaching body, an interdisciplinary approach, internationalization, and has a broad range of international collaborations and numerous collaboration agreements with leading research and education institutions all over the world. There have already been collaborations between members of the DTP and SISSA (in particular F. Nesti on theoretical astroparticle physics) as past collaborations with the local community (including joint projects with the Croatian area) of Mathematical Physics. As a result SISSA is the perfect candidate for this project. SISSA is expected to facilitate interdepartmental collaboration in DTP through their experience in multidisciplinary activity, as in strengthening the DTP connections with the international community through their long tradition and relations in organizing scientific conferences and workshops (including for instance the whole research environment in Trieste, which includes the ICTP, University of Trieste, Astronomic Observatory, etc). Finally, SISSA has an intense activity of outreach and popularization of science, which is tailor made for our WP 3 (Regional impact).

UCPH NBI covers primarily statistical physics done in DTP. Their strong competence is in multidisciplinary approach of Theoretical physics to biological and some other complex systems. World-renown research in the field of modelling of biological systems and their close collaborations with non-physicists will have an immediate impact on our goal to strengthen collaboration between DTP and some other RBI departments as well as initiating the collaboration between DTP and NBI.

LMU MUENCHEN has a long tradition of excellence and it ranks among the top five continental European universities in physics. Connection and the possibility to visit LMU also enables DTP staff to benefit from the enlarged excellency environment in Munich, counting diverse Universities and more world renowned theoretical physicists, an extremely lively program of excellent workshop, visitors and opportunities for enhancing the profile of a researcher. The LMU Arnold Sommerfeld Center with which we twin hosts a number of Chairs, among which D. Lust and G. Dvali, which are world renowned theoretical physicists, who agreed to join the RBI-T-WINNING project of DTP. Them alone and the phenomenology group at LMU already can lead DTP to a crucial leap forward in the knowledge and research skills.

The CNRS LPT nicely fits in this particle phenomenology activity by complementing the expertise in flavour physics. In addition, researchers from LMU LPT and DTP are interested in very similar topics, thus leading to a critical mass of experts able to offer diverse viewpoints and ideas both on the techniques as well as on the future research possibilities.

The Twinning project is naturally DTP-centric, meaning that the activities must be directed to the raising of the DTP profile. A seamless synergy between the activities envisaged with each of the partners should be assured by the complementarity of expertises they provide. Still, in the cases of joint activities, they already agreed enthusiastically to work together for the organization of world-level events in diverse topics as described in the WPs.

Finally, we also aim at strengthening interdepartmental collaboration and at creating bigger future research groups (temporal and focused on specific topic) able to compete for EU research funds, and the above institutions clearly provide a fertile ground on which the staff of DTP is expected to grow from the point of view of personal expertise, of scientific relationships with excellent groups, of creativity for for future project planning, and of course of personal and departmental visibility.
